Cascade maxi dress
A while ago Gabriela from Chalk & Notch asked me to join her in testing a new pattern, the Cascade Maxi Dress. I loved the design, but doubted if Isabella would love it too…. It’s a long dress and Isabella is uhm, let’s say, the practical kinda girl… The clothes she wears should be “play-proof”. And she said; ‘no mommy, that is just too long!’. Gabriela said not to worry and I could join the tester group and make a final review. So first all other awesome testers made the different views, and in the end I could finally make my version. It was worth the wait (can you imagine, seeing all those beautiful dresses and still have to wait to get a ‘go’? Gaah!). Make sure to read all post, there is a giveaway included :)!
Since Isabella didn’t want the Cascade Maxi Dress as a maxi dress, I decided to shorten it 15 centimeters (yes really!) and actually it is really cute! It is just on top of her knee and I left the back a bit longer, like the original pattern, so the twirl is still there. And although Autumn has arrived here in The Netherlands, I think the dress is perfect for layering đ .
Here are some features of the dress:
- Size range: 2 to 12 years
- Computer drafted pattern pieces
- Layered printing option â print only the size or view you wish to sew
- US and A4 formatting options
- Clickable table of contents
The Cascade Maxi pattern offers two views.
- View A: Maxi Dress
- View B:Â Maxi Dress with Contrast Hem Band
* Both Views have the same finished length.
The Cascade Maxi is listed as: ADVANCED BEGINNER sewing level and is considered a pretty quick sew. There are no fussy closures to sew and the elastic back closure makes for easy fitting. As always Chalk & Notch provides detailed step-by-step illustrated instructions to help you along the way.
The Cascade Maxi is all about the fabric, with simple design lines you can really showcase beautiful fabric print or texture. This pattern was designed for lightweight woven fabric. A few recommended fabrics are: Rayon Challis, Chambray, Silk Crepe, Double Gauze, Lawn, Linen, etc.

It is a bit a high low if you shorten it. But you could make the distance high low even bigger of course !

What fabric did you use?
Gaafmachine says:

I used a woven. Nameless, I bought it at a local shop here…. But any soft fabric, like a woven, challis, rayon, voile would be great to use!
