Handmade Fashion Revolution Week
I have been thinking what to write for my very first blogpost…. Should I write about me? No, just go and read ‘about’ I thought. Or maybe about pattern testing? But then I became aware of Handmade Fashion Revolution Week on the blog from Petit a Petit + Family. So, that is I am writing my very first post about, although the week has been already, I think you all should know what it is about!
It all started when on april 24th of 2013 the Rana Plaza complex collapsed in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It caused the loss of 1134 lives and over 2500 people were injured. Fashion Revolution Organization was born. Fashion Revolution aims to “bring people from all over the world together to use the power of fashion to change the story for the people who make the world’s clothes and accessories”.
I believe that any moment is a good moment to start. Be aware what you wear!
When I started sewing for Isabella, I started because I liked it, not realizing that a few years later, I don’t have to buy most of her clothes, but I a making them myself, trying to use ‘fair fabric’. It might be just a small step, but starting is what makes the difference here.
And if you’re not able to make your own clothes, why not buy local?
